LSI Logic Classic Run set for April 22
11th annual event benefits local education
MILPITAS, Calif., April 2, 2001 - Hundreds of runners and walkers will come together on Sunday, April 22 to participate in the 11th Annual LSI Logic Classic Run, a community event that benefits the Milpitas Unified School District.
The 10K run and 5K run/walk start at 9 a.m. at LSI Logic's 1501 McCarthy Blvd. facility in Milpitas. The entry fee is $20 before April 13, and $25 on race day.
Last year's event raised a record $100,000 for Milpitas schools. Since 1991, the Classic Run has raised approximately $500,000 to support the districts high-technology education and offsite instructional programs.
"The district is honored to have an exceptional corporate neighbor like LSI Logic that is committed to the educational welfare of our students," said Milpitas Unified School District Superintendent Chuck Perotti. "With public education operating under such restrictive guidelines and minimal funding, the support of local business is increasingly important in helping today's students become technologically literate and successful in the Information Age."
Last year's proceeds were used to purchase closed-circuit television systems for all nine elementary schools within the district. The television systems are used for news broadcasts, public announcements and teaching school-wide curricula. The proceeds were also used to enhance the multimedia systems at Milpitas High School and two middle schools, bringing all schools within the district up to state-of-the-art standards.
The LSI Logic Classic Run is a fun, community event designed for both competitive and recreational participants, attracting athletes from around the world. All race finishers receive a commemorative T-shirt and continental breakfast. Post-run activities include an awards presentation ceremony, on-site massages, music provided by the Milpitas High School Marching Band and door-prize drawings. Winners must be present to pick up their prizes.
Prize money will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers of the 10K race: $500 for first place; $200 for second place; and $100 for third place. The first 10K male and female runners who break the course record (29:40 for men and 33:48 for women) will win an additional $500. There also are awards in six age categories: 18 and under; 19-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60 and over. All first, second and third place winners will receive commemorative Classic Run sweatshirts.
Major sponsors of the Classic Run to date include Credence Systems Corporation, Tokyo Electron, SV Probe Inc, Advantest, Buck Consultants, DNS Electronics, Henninger, Kostat and Pycon. The Classic Run is fully underwritten by LSI Logic. All funds raised from sponsor contributions and registration fees are donated to the Milpitas Unified School District.
