LSI Logic Classic Run set for April 27
13th Annual Event Benefits Local Education
MILPITAS, CA - Hundreds of runners and walkers will come together on Sunday, April 27 to participate in the 13th Annual LSI Logic Classic Run, a community event that benefits the Milpitas Unified School District.
The 10K run and 5K run/walk start at 9 a.m. at LSI Logic's 1501 McCarthy Blvd. facility in Milpitas. The entry fee is $20 before April 18, and $25 on race day.
"While the school district faces an upcoming budget crisis, the Classic Run allows us to provide additional resources and support to enhance the learning experiences of the children in our community," said Karl Black, Milpitas Unified School District Superintendent.
Since 1991, the LSI Logic Classic Run has raised nearly $600,000 to support the district's high-technology education and offsite instructional programs. Proceeds from this year's event will support the technology development of the district's nine elementary schools' websites, which are an important communication tool for the parents, students, staff and community.
Proceeds from the 2002 LSI Logic Classic Run were used to upgrade computer lab equipment and software at Milpitas High School's Digital Business Academy, as well as support the school's art, photography and band departments. The Digital Business Academy is a three-year "school-within-a-school" program designed for students in grades 10 through 12, offering an integrated curriculum with a business and technology focus.
The LSI Logic Classic Run is a community event designed for both competitive and recreational participants. All race finishers receive a commemorative T-shirt and continental breakfast. ChampionChip® timing will be used at this year's event. Post-run activities include an awards presentation ceremony, music provided by the Milpitas High School Marching Band and door-prize drawings. Winners must be present to pick up their prizes. Free parking is available at surrounding LSI Logic parking lots on McCarthy Blvd.
Prize money will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers of the 10K race: $500 for first place; $200 for second place; and $100 for third place. The first 10K male and female runners who break the course record (29:40 for men and 33:48 for women) will win an additional $500. There also are awards in six age categories: 18 and under; 19-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60 and over.
Major sponsors of the Classic Run to date include: Buck Consultants, Fidelity Investments, Lam Research, PacifiCare, Sodexho Food Service, SV Probe. The Classic Run is fully underwritten by LSI Logic. All funds raised from sponsor contributions and registration fees are donated to the Milpitas Unified School District.
