LSI Logic Awarded 3,000th US Patent
Technology Innovator Ranked in Top 50 Worldwide for 2004
Milpitas, California, March 2, 2005 - LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced that it now cumulatively holds 3,000 patents granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. LSI Logic was awarded 378 patents in 2004 and has already secured 42 patents in 2005.
In a worldwide ranking of 1,800 companies that were granted 10 or more patents by the US Patent Office in 2004, LSI Logic was ranked #50.
"In less than five years, LSI Logic has nearly tripled its extensive patent portfolio," said Sandeep Jaggi, LSI Logic vice president and chief intellectual property counsel. "This achievement reinforces the company's reputation for technology leadership, engineering strength and employee innovation."
Approximately one out of every three LSI Logic engineers and other technology professionals has submitted, filed for or received patents for their inventions. These patents cover more than 15 distinct technologies including: semiconductor design, fabrication and packaging; digital video; communications; storage; digital signal processing and Platform ASICs.

LSI Logic was granted four patents last week from the US Patent Office, taking its total of US assigned patents to the 3,000 mark. These patents are in the fields of semiconductor fabrication (chemical mechanical polishing or CMP, and low-K dielectric), semiconductor packaging (Multi-Chip Modules) and portable digital recording.
