LSI Logic Classic Run on April 24 Celebrates 15 Years of Supporting Education and Community

MILPITAS, CA - March 28, 2005 - The 15th Annual LSI Logic Classic 10K/5K Run/Walk is set for Sunday, April 24 at 9 a.m.  Hundreds of runners and walkers of all ages will participate in this community event that benefits the 9,600 students and 500 teachers of the Milpitas Unified School District.

Designed for both competitive and recreational participants, the 10K run and 5K run/walk will start at LSI Logic's 1501 McCarthy Blvd. facility in Milpitas.  The course is flat, paved, fast, well monitored and certified by the USA Track & Field Association.

“We appreciate the support that LSI Logic and Classic Run sponsors and participants continue to provide our school district and students,” said Karl Black, Milpitas Unified School District superintendent.  “This year’s proceeds will go to refurbishing classrooms with new computers.  Most of the classroom computers are more than five years old and are unable to run many current software and Internet programs.”

Since 1991, the LSI Logic Classic Run has raised more than $650,000 to maintain and enhance the quality of technology, extracurricular and education programs throughout the 15 schools in the district.

The LSI Logic Classic Run offers the top three male and female finishers of the 10K race $500 for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third place.  The first 10K male and female runners who break the course record (29:42 for men and 33:48 for women) will win an additional $500.  There also are awards in six age categories: 18 and under; 19-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60 and over.  The 5K Walk/Run is a non-competitive event.

All race finishers receive a commemorative T-shirt and continental breakfast.  Post-run activities include an awards presentation ceremony, music provided by the Milpitas High School Marching Band and drawings for numerous prizes (must be present to win).

The entry fee is $25 by April 20, and $30 on race day.
