LSI Logic Classic Run Funds Enhance Technology Programs for Milpitas Schools

MILPITAS, Calif., April 26, 2005  – The 15th anniversary LSI Logic Classic, a 5K/10K walk/run benefiting the Milpitas Unified School District, raised approximately $40,000 this past Sunday. The $700,000 cumulative total raised by the run has been donated to fund science and technology programs for Milpitas schools.

“The runners and walkers may not realize how much this event will impact our community, but I know the positive effect this run has on this district,” said Karl Black, superintendent of the Milpitas Unified School District. “With the Classic Run, LSI Logic is helping to give our students real educational opportunities.”

This year’s funds will go to purchase new computers, replacing old equipment throughout the district.

“We have an increasing problem as our computers continue to age,” said Black. “We would like to exchange about 500 of our 2,500 systems per year. That means a new classroom computer once every five years. Since LSI Logic is a technology company, our philosophy has been to put the Classic Run funds into technology improvements.”

Approximately 370 runners and walkers participated in this year's Classic Run.

Corey Creasey, 26, of Berkeley was the top male finisher in the 10K race, winning $500 for his time of 31:18. Oakland resident Richie Boulet, 31, was second and won $200 for his finishing time of 31:28. John Weru, 25, of Mountain View finished third with a time of 31.46.

Megan Daly, 26, of Palo Alto was the top 10K female finisher, winning $500 with an overall time of 36:32. Shaluinn Fullove, 26, of Menlo Park came in second with a time of 37:25 and received $200. San Francisco resident, Maggie Visser, 36 took third with a time of 37:39 and won $100.
