LSI Chairman Wilf Corrigan to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award
CMP ACE Award to be presented to semiconductor industry pioneer at Embedded Systems Conference on April 4
MILPITAS, Calif., April 4, 2006 – LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI), today announced that Wilf Corrigan, chairman of the board, will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the second annual EE Times Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Awards gala, which will be held during CMP Media’s Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley, on April 4, 2006. The award recognizes Corrigan for his contributions to the semiconductor industry in the past half century.
Corrigan founded LSI in 1981 defying conventional wisdom that stated that no more semiconductor companies were needed. Not only did Corrigan pioneer the ASIC business, but he also pioneered use of the fabless model, which is widely used today. Throughout his 25 years leading LSI, Corrigan consistently maintained the company’s technology leadership to satisfy market demands.
“Wilf is a legend in the semiconductor business and has been at the cutting edge of innovation for nearly 50 years,” said Abhi Talwalkar, president and CEO, LSI. “Receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from a prestigious publication such as the EE Times is a testament to the significance Wilf has played in the technology world. We are privileged to have had the opportunity to work with and learn from Wilf to position the company for success in the next 25 years.”
The EE Times ACE Awards Lifetime Achievement Award candidates were selected by the editors of EE Times based on their individual accomplishments over the course of their careers.
“It is an honor to be recognized by the EE Times and to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award,” said Corrigan. “I’ve been fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with tremendous people throughout my career and they share in this award.”
Corrigan graduated from the Imperial College of Science, London, England in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering and holds honorary degrees from the University of Calgary (Doctor of Laws) and the University of Liverpool (Doctor of Engineering). He co-founded the Semiconductor Industry Association, in 1977, with Robert Noyce, Intel; Jerry Sanders, AMD; and Charlie Sporck, National Semiconductor.
