LSI Logic launches industry's first PCI-X enabled hardware based MegaRAID SATA 300-8X solution
INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM, San Francisco, Calif. - February 17, 2004 - LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today launched the industrys first PCI-X enabled hardware based eight-port SATA RAID solution. The MegaRAID SATA 300-8X is a point-to-point scalable PCI-X SATA RAID controller offering data transfer speeds of up to 300MB/s per port. Combined with the technology of the Intel® IOP331 I/O processor and 128MB of embedded DDR 333 memory, the MegaRAID SATA 300-8X delivers a world-class SATA II storage solution. Extensions and enhancements to SATA I include Native Command Queuing, Port Multiplier, and Enclosure Management support.
A live demonstration of LSI Logics PCI-X MegaRAID SATA 300-8X storage adapter will be available in booth #716 at the Intel Developer Forum Spring 2004, being held February 17-19 at the Moscone Center, San Francisco, CA.
"Serial ATA II extends the performance and functionality of SATA, improving and extending its applicability in low-cost enterprise storage environments," said Phil Bullinger, vice president and general manager of the LSI Logic RAID Storage Adapters division. Native Command Queuing, Enclosure Management and Port Multiplier support are key new features that enable our customers to employ robust RAID solutions in a variety of cost-sensitive storage applications."
The PCI-X SATA-II RAID storage adapter incorporates the high-performance Intel® IOP331 I/O processor based on Intel® XScale® technology, and is ideal for demanding, yet cost sensitive storage I/O environments. The single-chip solution builds on Intel XScale technology and enhanced memory to nearly triple the overall performance possible with existing I/O processors. The Intel IOP331 I/O processor integrates DDR memory and a PCI-X bridge, which makes it the first complete Intel XScale architecture-based I/O system on a chip.
With its single-chip implementation, the Intel IOP331 I/O processor reduces development costs and board-space limitations, and its advanced developer toolsets and extensive supporting reference designs enable our customers to meet demanding time-to-market deadlines, said Mike Wall, general manager of the Intel Storage Components Division. Based on Intel XScale®technology, the Intel IOP331 I/O processor also offers superior processing power and an enhanced dual-ported DDR memory controller, to meet LSI Logics requirement for a powerful and efficient RAID solution.
LSI Logics PCI-X MegaRAID SATA II products will offer advanced hardware-based RAID features essential to server environments. This new extension to the SATA I standard, bridges technology from a desktop-oriented SATA to a server level storage interface resulting in a lower total cost solution. This solution will take full advantage of LSI Logics market leading MegaRAID software features, including RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 10, and 50, fast initialization for quick array setup and auto resume during array rebuild or reconstruction if the system shuts down.
LSI Logic MegaRAID solutions continue to set the standard for high-performance fault tolerant data protection, and the MegaRAID SATA 300-8X builds on this with high data throughput, extensive fault tolerance capabilities, and advanced management utilities," Bullinger added. "The MegaRAID SATA 300-8X brings the full spectrum of SATA II features and capabilities to market, built upon the proven MegaRAID architecture and a complete suite of system and application support software."
