LSI Logic First To Deliver Serial Attached SCSI Expander Silicon For Unmatched Scalability And Configuration Flexibility
- SAS and SATA compatibility provides greater customer choice
- End-to-end interoperability proven with all major disk drive manufacturers
- 12Gb/s product roadmap and large volume device connectivity possible
MILPITAS, Calif.- April 26, 2004 - Extending its storage industry leadership, the LSI Logic (NYSE: LSI) Storage Standard Products division today announced delivery to OEMs of the industry’s first fully-functional Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) expander silicon, the LSISASx12 (http://lsilogic.com/sas). This 12-port expander provides storage environments with the functionality for connecting multiple targets and initiators through a switched device. The expander is ideal for use in data centers, servers and clustered storage subsystems.
SAS technology and products are being developed as the next-generation SCSI solution to address increasing I/O and direct attach storage requirements, as well as providing an alternative to higher-cost Storage Area Network (SAN) requirements for small and medium-sized businesses.
Since January, LSI Logic has also been delivering SAS Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) and SAS controller ICs. All use the Fusion-MPT™ (Message Passing Technology) architecture, an open programming interface for developers. SAS technology uses the proven SCSI command set and leverages a common electrical and physical connection interface compatible with Serial ATA (SATA) drive devices. This interface compatibility allows for greater customer choice in drive connection, including the 2.5-inch small form factor hard disk drive.
